Areas define sections of Locations, such as lobbies, restrooms, classrooms, etc. Areas are used for both the Quality Check and QR Code features.
Area Types define the tasks that are completed within an Area.

Adding Area Types
- Go to Customers > Manage Area Types.
- Add the Area Type information:
- Title – The name of the Area Type (Lobby, Restroom, Office, etc.).
- Description (Optional) – A brief description of the area type.
- Click Save to create the Area Type.
Editing Area Types
- Go to Customers > Manage Area Types.
- Click the Edit Pencil in the Actions column.
- At the top of the screen, edit the Title and Description.
- Click Save to confirm changes.
Deactivating Area Types
- Go to Customers > Manage Area Types.
- Click the X in the Actions column for the Area Type.
- The Area type will become inactive.
- To reactivate an Area Type, select the Show Inactive checkbox.
- Select the Reactivate button in the Actions column.
Adding Tasks
- On an Area Type, select the Tasks button in the Actions column.
- Click + Add New.
- Add the required information:
- Title - The name of the task.
- Description (Optional) - A description of the task. 2000 character limit.
- Activity Type - Select Cleaning, Inspection, or Both.
- Mandatory/Optional - When completing a QR Code, Optional tasks can be marked as skipped.
- Click Save to add tasks.
Activity Types
- Cleaning - Used for Scan2Clean (Employee/Location Scan).
- Inspection - Used for Quality Checks.
- Both - Used for both Scan2Clean (Employee/Location Scan) and Quality Checks.
Adding Areas
- Navigate to Customers > Manage Locations.
- Click the Edit Pencil in the Action column for the desired Location.
- Select the Area subtab.
Users must have Area Manager enabled in their Security Settings to access the Areas subtab. -
Select +Add Area.
- Fill out the information. Required information is indicated by an asterisk(*).
- Area Name* - The name of the area/site.
- Area Short Name - An optional shortened version of the area name.
- Type* - The Area Type associated with the area.
- Sqft - The square footage of the area. This information is visible in reports.

Tasklist Reset (Minutes) - The interval of how often the tasklist will reset. As an example, if the field is set to 60 mins, all items on the checklist will revert back to the Incomplete status after 60 minutes.
- Any open task lists will automatically be completed once the specified amount of time has passed. This function refreshes the checklist so that it is ready to be used by the next crew/cleaner. If applicable, Auto Complete will appear as the Status on related reports.
- Estimated Area Time (Minutes) - The estimated time it takes to clean or service the Area. This information is used in the Cleaning Time vs. Area Estimation report.
- Enable Clock In - This allows trained employees to scan the Area's QR Code to clock into the location.
- Shared* or Individual* - If an Area is Shared, employees will be able to see if checklist items have been completed by other employees when scanning QR Codes. If an Area is Individual, each employee will have a separate list.
- Reset on Completion - When enabled, the tasklist will immediately reset after being marked as completed. The Tasklist Reset (Minutes) value is ignored.

Enable Timeline Scan - Scanning a new area will automatically End Cleaning on the previous area.
- Scan Out Required - Users must scan the their current area's QR code to End Cleaning.
- Cleaning Notification - If using QR Codes with Location Scan, this will send a notification to Managers once an Area has been marked as clean/not clean.

Enable Public Scan - Required if QR Scans will be available to the public.
- Area Status - This allows employees to scan the QR Code through JM Connect, and allows anyone to scan the QR Code using their smart device.

Push/Email Notification - If enabled, trained managers will receive notifications through JM Connect or email once feedback has been received.

- Select Save to add the QR Code.
Importing Areas
- Areas can be bulk imported using a spreadsheet.
- Go to Customers > Area Import.
- Click Download Area Spreadsheet to access the import file.
- Fill out the spreadsheet and save the file.
- Customer, Location, and Area Type names must match the system value.
- On the Area Import page, click Upload Area Spreadsheet and open the file.
- The total import records will be listed, including which passed or failed.
- Click Add All to import all passing records.
- Click Add on an individual passing record to import it separately.
- Remarks will show the reason a record failed. Correct these records before reimporting.
Editing Areas
- On the Area subtab, click the Edit Pencil in the Actions column for an area.
- Edit details, then click Save to confirm changes.
An area's Type cannot be changed after creation.
Deactivating Areas
- On the Area subtab, click the X in the Actions column to deactivate an Area.
- To reactivate an Area, select the Show Inactive checkbox.
- Select the Reactivate button in the Actions column.
Area Statuses
Area Statuses provide an easy way to know how operations are going at a glance.
Cleaning Status - Clean or Not Clean. Cleaning status is usually changed automatically when QR Codes are completed, but can also be manually edited by selecting the Edit Pencil for the Area.
In-Use Status - In Use or Not In Use. Areas are automatically changed to In Use when employees are actively cleaning an Area. Areas can also be marked as In Use if they are currently occupied by the client/general public.
Last Clean - How long ago the Area was last marked as Clean, and by whom.
Last Usage - How long ago the Area was last marked as In Use, and by whom.
FAQ
Question: Why can't I deactivate my Area Type?
Answer: Area Types cannot be deactivated if they are currently being used for an Area. If you'd like to deactivate the Area type, remove that type from any associated Areas first.
