Define Payroll Frequency and Overtime Settings
Both Payroll Frequency and Overtime Calculation settings are dependent upon the days that your payroll cycles start. What days do employees get paid? What days of work are they getting paid for on those days? The cycle frequency and overtime calculation day should always start with the first day of a new pay period.
Weekly Frequency
Use weekly if your employees get paid every week.
Choose what day of the week your payroll cycle starts on.
Is your work week scheduled Sunday-Saturday? Or Monday-Sunday?
Example shown: Weekly from Sunday-Saturday
Weekly Overtime Settings
If you are using the Weekly payroll frequency, you are choosing the day of the week that your payroll cycles start on. The overtime calculation day setting should match the same day of the week.
Example shown: Weekly from Sunday-Saturday
Bi-Weekly Frequency
Do your employees get paid every other week?
Choose what day of the week your payroll cycle starts on.
How is your work week scheduled? Sunday-Saturday? Monday-Sunday? Wednesday-Tuesday?
Example shown: Bi-Weekly from Monday-Sunday
Bi-Weekly Overtime Settings
If you are using the Bi-Weekly payroll frequency, you are choosing the day of the week that your payroll cycles start on. The overtime calculation day setting should match the same day of the week.
Example shown: Bi-Weekly from Monday-Sunday
Twice a Month Frequency
Do your employees get paid on two specific dates each month?
Choose the dates that your payroll cycles start on.
Example shown: Twice a Month on the 1st and 15th
If you pay your employees on the 1st and 15th of each month, the first payroll cycle would start on the 1st, and the second payroll cycle would start on the 15th.
This means the work that is done on days 1-14 would be paid out on the 15th and the work done on days 15-30/31 would be paid out on the 1st.
*If you want work completed on the 15th included in the first cycle, change the second start day to the 16th.
Twice a Month Overtime Settings
When using the Twice a Month payroll frequency, the overtime calculation day will be different for each pay cycle, or each month, depending on which dates you use.
Because specific dates typically fall on different days of the week each month, the overtime calculation day may need to be changed each cycle or month to reflect the actual day of the week that the next payroll cycle starts on.
Example shown: Twice a Month on the 1st and 15th
*November Overtime Day would be Sunday. December Overtime Day would be Tuesday.
Monthly Frequency
Do your employees get paid on a specific date each month?
Choose the date that your payroll cycles start on.
Example shown: Monthly on the 1st of each Month
Choosing the 1st means every payroll cycle goes from the 1st-30th/31st and will include all work completed within that time in payroll reports.
Monthly Overtime Settings
Because specific dates, like the 1st of the month, typically fall on different days of the week each month, the overtime calculation day may need to be changed each month to reflect the actual day of the week that the next payroll cycle starts on.
*November Overtime Day would be Sunday. December Overtime Day would be Tuesday.
Travel Time Payroll Settings
Fixed Rate Shift vs Overtime
If an employee reaches over 40 hours during a shift that has a Fixed Rate assigned, the employee will not be paid overtime for that shift. The employee will be paid the Fixed Amount set on the schedule on the payroll reports.
If the employee has another shift after that Fixed Rate shift, that shift would be considered overtime and will appear as overtime on the payroll reports.
Creating Payroll Cycles
Create payroll cycles by clicking the "Add New Payroll Cycle" button. Each time this button is clicked, an additional cycle is added to the list below. It's recommended to add several future cycles at one time.
